Open House on March 22nd

Open House on March 22nd

I always dread moving. You know the process—opening a box, trying to find the box cutter, figuring out where things go, and then on to the next box—as you face what seems to be an endless number of boxes each day. We are deep in the process of moving the shop from Hanover, PA, to Christiana, PA. Slowly, the pile of boxes is diminishing, and the beauty of the new shop is emerging.

The longarms are installed, and we are busy with inventory for over 650 bolts of fabric. The shop opens on March 22nd. The first two hundred customers will pick a giveaway to tuck into their bag.

The shop is designed for the modern quilter. We aim to build a quilting community experience by combining sit-n-sew opportunities, classes, trunk shows, and retreats with guest artists. The shop actively supports the local PA designers- you will find Lisa Calle, Rachel Rossi, and Pamela J’s- fabrics in the shop. Our goal is to be your shop of preference for the creative experience. The retail hours are:

  •  10:00 AM to 8:30 PM Tuesday through Friday (we are closed on Monday and Sunday)
  • 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturday

The shop is located in Bart Township, Christiana, PA. Look for the sign. The shop is tucked underneath the Four Seasons Pizza shop on 896.

Sit-N-Sew

On Friday and Saturday, the shop will be available for sit-n-sew. The shop has twelve sewing machines for rent (eight Bernina 770s and four Husquavarna Designer machines). It can accommodate fifteen people (three to furnish their machines) for a sit-n-sew session.

The sit-n-sew workspace has five ironing stations, two design walls, and two cutting stations. Sign-ups for the workspace will be available on this website next week.

What You Will Find in the Shop

We feature fabric from Andover (Alison Glass, Guicy Guice, and Laundry Basket Quilts), Art Gallery, Bernatex (including local artists of Rachel Rossi, Pat Sloane, and Lisa Calle), Dashwood, In The Beginning, Lewis & Irene, Windham/Anthology (Marcia Derse), Free Spirit (Kaffe, Mobley, Cori Dantani, and Tula Pink), and Tilda. The shop has over 100 widebacks, including cuddle, sherpa, and minky from Shannon Fabric.

Notions, patterns, and thread. Stop by if you need thread from Aurifil (50, 40 and 20 weight), Superior (King Tut, Omni V, and Bottom Line), and Wonderfil (Invasfil, Eleganza, and Glow in the Dark thread). We also have embroidery thread (Madeira rayon and Isacord polyester) and stabilizers from OESD and Wonderfil.

The class schedule will be published next week. We will teach Bags by Annie, Rope Bowls, Rag Flannel Quilts (fringed on the Accuquilt), T-shirt Quilts, T-towel Applique, and a beginner Sample Quilt. The initial classes will be from April to June. We will take a break in the summer months as we prepare for the shop hops.

In the fall, we will offer a monthly machine embroidery club (a new project each month), a Bonnie Hunter scrap quilt, an “all about baby” club (new projects each month) and a “getting ready for the holidays countdown” (tree skirts, stockings, table runners, placements, etc.)

The shop also has three longarms: two computerized Bernina Q24s and a sit-down Q20 for rent. With a reservation, we can help you longarm your quilt.

On the back wall, you will find Spinnaway Farm handspun angora yarn. Come and appreciate the beauty of the yarn with pearls. There will be a limited number of beginning knitting classes, and knitters are always welcome to stop by and knit away in our comfortable chairs.

The coffee pot will always be on, and we hope to see you there.

All the best in your quilting journey!

Lora and Brice
